Abstract: Many people thinks that the decisive factor in improving English teaching competence lies in language knowledge, including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and language skills, namely the application of language skills. However, with the research and development of applied linguistics and psychological linguistics, more people are aware of non-linguistic knowledge, such as background knowledge, cultural differences, sentiment factors and learners’ learning strategies, greatly influences English learning. Starting off from “people-oriented” educational idea, this paper discusses the influences of sentiment factors to English learning from the perspective of teachers’ sentiment attitude and students’ subjective learning and makes a reflection on how to bring students’ subjective awareness into full play.
